Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Creams (review) are really intensely pigmented liquid lipsticks. I’ve tried three shades and have loved all three! (Pictured: Moscato)
Guerlain Rouge G (review) is my all-time favorite lipstick formula, and it’s by no means inexpensive, so a sale is a great time to indulge. Love shades like Gemma, Girly, Gisela, Genna, Garconne, Gigolo. (Pictured: Genna)
YSL Glossy Stains (review) are glossy, pigmented, and long-wearing lip colors that come in a wide variety of shades. These are lovely for someone who likes a glossy lip but needs longer wear. (Pictured: Fuchsia Dore)
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick (review) is a pigmented, comfortable, hydrating, and moderately longer-wearing lipstick that comes in a good variety of shades from beige to plum. I really love shades like Anarchy, Naked, Streak, and Venom. (Pictured: Anarchy)
Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lipgloss (review) is my go-to formula for sparkling, shimmery gloss with a high-shine, high-shimmer finish. I love shades like Canary, Naked Plum, and Plum Gold. (Pictured: Citrus)
Too Faced La Creme (review) is an excellent formula if you love a lipstick with a very creamy, emollient texture, good color payoff, and hydration. (Pictured: Bon Bon)
Givenchy Le Rouge (review) is one of my favorite formulas for its satiny finish, intense color payoff, and comfortable, hydrating, long-wear.
Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick (review) is a richly pigmented, longer-wearing, comfortable formula that won’t break the bank! (Pictured: Menace)
Marc Jacobs LoveMarc Lip Gel (review) is hydrating, emollient lipstick with a lot of shine and pigmentation. Some of my favorites are Showstopper and Seduce Me. (Pictured: Seduce Me)
One of my favorite beauty products to bring out during summer is neon lipsticks! The brighter, the better! Let’s kick it off with a look at some bold, vibrant fuchsia lipsticks… You can see them all here in the Swatch Gallery.
It had rich, full color coverage, though the texture wasn’t as creamy or as emollient as other shades in the Full-Bodied range. It didn’t tug when I applied the color, but I noticed a difference in the texture compared to past shades I’ve reviewed. The formula is lightweight, comfortable to wear, and wore well for almost five hours. It was moderately hydrating while worn, and there was no discernible scent or taste.

I bought this after I fell in love with Dolly Full-Bodied Lipstick. There are some similarities between the gloss and the lipstick, but the gloss is sheerer, more shimmery, and has a lighter pink base–it’s not as warm-toned as the lipstick. The formula is supposed to be a “sheer, shimmering, hydrating gloss with a no-tingle plumping effect.” It’s exactly as described: it had sheer color payoff–noticeable color and shimmer but the natural lip color comes through quite a bit–with a non-sticky, hydrating formula that wears three hours on me. The consistency is lightweight, comfortable to wear, and doesn’t settle into lip lines.

Buxom Winner Takes All Lip Set ($32.00 for 0.35 oz.) includes three shades of Full-On Lip Cream and three shades of Full-On Lip Polish. The Lip Cream formula is described as a “creamy, no-shimmer lip gloss” with “sheer to medium” coverage.
The Lip Polish formula is described as a “sheer, shimmering lip gloss with a tingling, plumping effect.” The texture of both formulas was light-medium in thickness, creamy, and moderately tacky (the Lip Creams seemed slightly less tacky than the Lip Polishes). The Lip Creams had a tendency to settle into lip lines, and they’re true to the “no-shimmer” part of the description. The Lip Polishes are sheer with a fair amount of fine shimmer with a glossy shine.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to test the wear of these formulas, as the tingling sensation was just too much for me (I am often sensitive to lip plumping products, particularly any that really have a tingle you can feel); just swatching through them and testing the wear for two shades was too much for my lips. I would expect two to four hours, given how tacky they are, though, and the two I did test were White Russian and Chloe, both lasting three hours. I wish I could be more helpful!
White Russian is a peachy-pink with warm undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage and lasted three hours on me. It does settle into lip lines and doesn’t appear even when applied, though it is not the worst offender I’ve come across. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Berry Blast is a cool-toned, medium-dark fuchsia pink with a creamy, glossy finish. This shade had semi-opaque color payoff, and it went on a little more evently than White Russian, but there was some settling into lip lines. I felt like the deeper color helped to camouflage some of the settling, though. See comparison swatches
/ view dupes side-by-side.
Creamsicle is a milky, pink-coral with warm undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and this particular shade seemed to have a thicker consistency than the others. It settled into lip lines noticeably as well. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Chloe is a peachy-coral with fine gold and peach shimmer. It had sheer color, but it had a fair amount of shimmer, which gave it a more “opaque” look in a way. This was the other shade I managed to test, and it also lasted for three hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Trixie is a medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and gold shimmer. It had sheer color coverage with a moderate amount of visible god shimmer. It seemed to brighten and add warmth to my natural lip color. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Sophia is a light-medium, pinky-mauve with gold shimmer. It actually seemed more like a combination of the two formulas, as this one had a creamier look applied, which tended to cover some of the shimmer. It also settled into lip lines and didn’t go on as evenly. The coverage was semi-opaque, which is more pigmentation than as described. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

BUXOM Eyeshadow Bar is a customizable palette system that consists of single and six-slotted palettes with 40 eyeshadows that can be inserted. I created two palettes–one brighter shades, one more neutral shades–so I can get a good feel for the range and its quality. When you purchase the six-pan palette and six eyeshadows, the total price is $40, but you can only get the discount once per order (I had to place two separate orders). Each eyeshadow pan is housed in a slim plastic container that pops into the larger palette, and they snap in and out quite easily. Full reviews to come once I finish testing these!
BUXOM Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz. each or $40.00 for 6 x 0.05 oz.) is a new formula that is available as a customizable palette system, where you can purchase a single shade and an individual compact for $13 or purchase a six-pan palette, plus six eyeshadows to go inside of it, for $40. Each eyeshadow is held inside a metal pan that is (presumably) glued into a plastic pan that snaps into the compact/palette. The eyeshadows are easily lifted in and out of the palette, so you can rearrange them or create a new combination if you have more than one set of six. They will fit into a Z-palette, but you’ll need to add a magnet to keep it in place. The eyeshadow formula is one that works better in action than swatched, as several of the mattes seemed on the thinner, more powdery side, but then they would blend exceptionally well while adhering to bare skin–and they wouldn’t fade any faster than the more shimmery eyeshadows. The more shimmery shades tended to outperform the matte shades with better color payoff. These eyeshadows seem to have a slightly firmer press to them (more in the style of your average MAC eyeshadow), and they feel quite different compared to bareMinerals’ Ready line, as those have a thicker, denser consistency.
BUXOM Luxe Life Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “glimmering periwinkle.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark cornflower blue with cool, bluish-violet undertones and a faint lighter blue shimmer over a mostly matte finish. It had so-so pigmentation, which is likely due to the thinner, more powdery consistency. It looked better on the eye, as it was buildable, but it is a shade that needs extra help. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Hello Kitty Dear Daniel (LE, ) is lighter. Sugarpill Royal Sugar (P, $13.00) is darker, brighter. Sugarpill Velocity (P, $12.00) is darker, brighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

BUXOM Famous Flirt Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “matte pastel peach.” It’s a light-medium, peachy orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It’s definitely not matte; there’s a subtle sheen to the finish that is noticeable on the skin. It had good pigmentation with a soft, slightly powdery texture that still adhered well to the skin and wore for eight hours before fading. bareMinerals Shhh… (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. NARS Night Star (LE, $24.00) is more shimmery. bareMinerals Magnate (LE, ) is lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Big & Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00) (New, Permanent)
Swipe lips with this vividly graphic, ultra-bold lipstick. It delivers intensely pigmented, one-stroke color in an ultra-lightweight gel formula. Featuring moisturizing matte and satin finishes, it leaves lips with a modern, daring look.
BUXOM Room Service Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “iridescent mint.” It’s a brightened, light-medium aqua green with a warm, golden sheen that gives it a more metallic finish overall. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that ran a smidgen dry in the pan but didn’t appear that way on the lid. The color started to fade after eight hours of wear on me. Chanel Promesse #4 (LE) is less shimmery (95% similar). Lancome Fashion Forward (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Dior Dulcinee #2 (LE) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Zestful (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Dior Blue Lagoon (374) Eyeshadow #5 (LE) is more muted (90% similar). theBalm #36 (P, $6.50) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Make Up For Ever #53 (LE, $23.00) is darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
BUXOM No Faux Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “iridescent snakeskin.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark reddish brown with green-teal shimmer, so it has a multi-faceted appearance and flashes cooler, greener and then warmer and redder. I felt like the duochrome effect was particularly noticeable with this one, even on the lid, without having to contort yourself into weird positions. The texture was really dense and “thick,” even though it is a powder, and it applied well on the skin with smooth, even color that was easily blended out. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading on me. Urban Decay Lounge (P, $18.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC I've Got a Crush on You (LE, $32.50) is more shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Ardency Inn Peacock (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). NARS Malacca (P, $24.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Kat Von D On the Road (P, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Castor Gray (LE) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Too Faced Girly (LE, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC When in Rio (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
BUXOM Spoiled Sexy Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “matte deep mauve.” It’s a muted, medium-dark mauve with warm, brown undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer color coverage, which was likely the result of it being incredibly powdery and prone to sheering out–so little of it stuck to bare skin. This is a shade that absolutely needs some sort of primer to help it adhere to the lid. What little of it I could see on the skin seemed to stay on all right for seven hours. LORAC Pink Mauve (P) is warmer (95% similar). LORAC Pink Mauve (P) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Haux (P, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Hourglass Monochrome #4 (P) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Quarry (P, $16.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Anastasia Dusty Rose (LE, $12.00) is warmer (90% similar). Tarte Eco-chic (LE) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Make Up For Ever M546 Dark Purple Taupe (P, $21.00) is cooler (90% similar). Tarte Misty Mauve (LE) is darker, cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
BUXOM IT Crowd Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “glimmering cayenne.” It’s a bold, medium-dark orange with warm undertones and a dusting of gold shimmer over a matte finish. It had rich color payoff with a soft, blendable consistency that didn’t sheer out too readily, but I noticed it was thinner and didn’t play as well with some of the denser frosts from the range. The color lasted for eight hours on me. Sugarpill Flamepoint (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, lighter, brighter (95% similar). Inglot #123R Bottom (P, $6.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Red Brick (P, $16.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Inglot #123R Middle (P, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever S742 Tomato (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Farasha (LE, $16.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Kat Von D Mandala (LE) is darker (90% similar). MAC Orange (P, $16.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). NARS Persia (P, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). Viseart Dark Matte #8 (P) is lighter, more muted (85% similar). Disney by Sephora Rajah (LE) is more shimmery, lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
BUXOM Party Girl Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “fuchsia luster.” It’s a medium-dark, fuchsia pink with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had decent pigmentation, but I found it really hard to blend out on the lid, and it had a tendency to stick where it applied and not wanting to diffuse. It lasted for eight hours before I saw fading, but I would use this one over a primer. Urban Decay Noise (LE, $18.00) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (95% similar). Urban Decay Backlash (LE, $18.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Totally Fetch (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented (95% similar). Fyrinnae Superstar (P, $6.80) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Too Faced Bright Eyes (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC Infra-violet (LE, $22.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Make Up For Ever ME910 Electric Magenta (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Sugarpill Smitten (LE, $13.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). Too Faced Monaco (P, $16.00) is brighter, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Woodstock (P, $18.00) is brighter, warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Bubblegum (LE, $16.00) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). Urban Decay 1985 (LE, $18.00) is cooler (85% similar). Sugarpill Decora (P, $13.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Sleek MakeUP Acid #1 (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, darker, brighter (85% similar). Estee Lauder Violet Underground #1 (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
BUXOM VIP Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “sparkling orchid.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark purple with warm, pink undertones and a matte finish. It was incredibly powdery and dry, which yielded sheerer, uneven color coverage and made it difficult to blend as it got all over the place. It lasted for six hours before it had faded noticeably. NARS Fashion Rebel #2 (LE, $24.00) is warmer (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet (LE, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Inglot #386 (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Long-time readers will know that emerald-hued eyeshadow is a favorite of mine, but it is hard to find high-performing ones, and the last couple of years have brought us some really great shades, like:
BUXOM Coral Confession Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “satin coral pink.” It’s a light-medium coral with warm undertones and a hint of pink and very fine micro-shimmer. It has a little more shine to it than a true satin finish (to me), but it wears down to satin within an hour or so. This shade had good pigmentation with a lightweight consistency that turns creamy as it heats up against the lips (from the bullet). I did have trouble with the color pulling into lip lines somewhat after two and a half hours of wear, but the creaminess of the formula made it so I could press and rub my lips together to even it back out again. It wore well for four and a half hours in total and was lightly hydrating. MAC Modern Wow! (LE, $17.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). MAC Razzledazzler (P, $17.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Bare Peach (23) (P, $50.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). BUXOM Evocative Petal Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “matte deep rose.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark reddish-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had very nearly opaque pigmentation (you can see my lip freckle peeking out just barely!). The consistency was velvety and smooth and did not tug on the lips when applied from the tube. It wore well for six hours and left behind a stain. It was neither drying nor hydrating for me, but it was pretty comfortable to wear for a matte. Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Kat Von D Bachelorette (P, $20.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Rozz (LE, $17.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). BUXOM Graphic Grape Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “satin deep purple.” It’s a medium-dark, berry purple with cooler undertones and a glossy, creamy finish. It had a lot of slip to it, which gave it that glossy look (by no means a satin!), and there was more translucency with this shade compared to the others–it was only semi-opaque. The color lasted for four and a half hours on me, but it did feather along the upper lip line for me, and it tended to slide around a bit, so I felt like you had to take more care that it didn’t slide right off. The formula was hydrating, though! Bobbi Brown Brocade (P, $35.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Guerlain Bee (LE, $55.00) is more muted (90% similar). MAC Rebel (P, $17.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (DC, $34.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter, less glossy (85% similar). MAC Plum Bright (LE, $17.00) is more muted (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA SUMMARY | BUXOM Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is supposed to be a “lightweight” lipstick with “one-stroke color” available in matte and satin finishes that is “moisturizing.” The formula is semi-opaque to opaque with a lightly creamy to velvety consistency–the satins tend to be noticeably softer and creamier, while the mattes are more velvety and denser–with four to six hour wear time. Some shades are hydrating, while others are simply not drying.
BUXOM Pink Coquette Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “satin bright warm pink.” It’s a light-medium, yellow-toned pink with a creamy, glossy finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a creamy, emollient texture that had a moderate amount of slip. The formula was moisturizing and comfortable to wear, but it only lasted for four hours with minor settling into lip lines. Estee Lauder Impulsive (P, $30.00) is lighter (95% similar). YSL Corail Jalouse (32) (P, $34.00) is glossier (95% similar). Urban Decay Native (P, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). Revlon Pink Lemonade (P, $7.49) is lighter (85% similar). BUXOM Ultraviolet Bold Gel Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 o z.) is described as a “matte bright violet.” It’s a bright, medium-dark magenta purple with cool undertones and a flat, matte finish. This was the most matte shade that I tried from the six I bought. It had good pigmentation with a velvety-smooth texture that didn’t drag or tug on the lips, but it does cling slightly. On me, the color wore well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. Urban Decay Bittersweet (P, $22.00) is darker (95% similar). Kat Von D L.U.V. (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Not one but two shades were selected as “Color of the Year” by Pantone for 2016. Their decision of choosing two hues, a pastel blue and pink, commonly associated as gender-specific colors, was explained as, “In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.” That’s what I like to hear! Here are five existing shades that line-up with the concept of Rose Quartz, which is a “warmer embracing rose tone.”
